Behind the Line

Behind the Line

There seems to be a misunderstanding
Two distant points on a plane
Why won't you let me stop to explain
I try and try again - but so many times you turn your head.

I'm two steps behind
But there's no race to get ahead
Only to meet on the line
And understand what's yours and what's mine
But I can't catch up to you and we're losing time
Behind the line.

Lost behind the lines of all space and time
Time's lost and never regained
Gone away to be dreamed or dread
But there's nothing there - when there's nothing said
But I know, nothing tried is nothing gained
But you send me away, when I try again
And now, I don't know what to do
Behind the line.

So sorry, for me and for you
But I'm lost and don't know what to do
To do, for me and you
Let me know what I must do to stop from losing you
To catch up and step on the line with you, with you
Oh, with you, behind the line.
